The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has said allegations against the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, are intended to embarrass the President.
Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Thursday, Wike stated that from the manner the issue is being pushed, it is clear Gbajabiamila will not be sacked despite calls from opposition parties for his removal and a full investigation into what they termed “the mother of all scandals.”
The Minister, a close ally of President Tinubu, described the Chief of Staff as “a clean man” who is not involved in the controversial agency.
“I know the chief of staff very, very well. He did not,” Wike said.
“People are saying the chief of staff must be sacked. By who? The opposition? Why not form a government, and then you can sack whoever you want to sack.”
He dismissed calls for Gbajabiamila’s suspension, particularly those from opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing them as “rubbish.”
According to Wike, the attacks on Gbajabiamila are a ploy to target the Presidency. He ruled out the possibility of the Chief of Staff being suspended.
President Tinubu had earlier directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to conduct a thorough investigation into the activities of the PFIPC and submit its report within 30 days.
The PFIPC has been at the centre of public controversy in recent weeks, with opposition parties demanding accountability and the removal of key officials allegedly linked to the agency.
