The University of Ilorin has dismissed social media reports claiming it will not admit students into its Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS, programme for the 2026/2027 academic session.
In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun on Friday, the institution confirmed it will admit students into the programme and that Post-UTME registration is currently ongoing.
“The information being bandied on social media did not originate from the University and does not represent its official position. It is a misleading rumour intended to confuse prospective admission seekers and should be disregarded in its entirety,” said Akogun
Akogun noted that the university had already advertised admission into the MBBS programme for the 2026/2027 session.
On concerns about some medical graduates awaiting induction, management said it was “seriously concerned” and making “every necessary effort” to ensure their induction happens “in the shortest possible time.”
“The University is actively engaging with the relevant regulatory authorities to facilitate the process,” the statement added. Affected graduates were asked to remain patient as updates would be provided.
The university also assured current medical students across all levels that it is taking “all appropriate steps to ensure that no student is disadvantaged.”
“The academic progress and welfare of our students remain our priority, and we will continue to take proactive steps to sustain their academic strides,” Akogun said.
UNILORIN said it holds the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, “in the highest regard as the regulatory agency” and will continue to engage the council constructively to resolve all issues amicably.
Management urged the public, prospective students, parents, and stakeholders to disregard the misinformation and rely only on the university’s official communication channels for accurate information.
“The University of Ilorin remains committed to excellence, stability, and the highest standards in medical education,” the statement concluded.
