Nigerian engineer Engr. Dr. Bola Mudasiru has been elected Vice President, Anglophone, of the West African Federation of Engineering Organisations (WAFEO), the Nigerian Society of Engineers announced on Thursday.
The election took place at the just-concluded three days Biennial Conference of the Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers (SLIE) held in Freetown which ended yesterday.
Dr. Mudasiru, who serves as Deputy National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers.will represent Anglophone member countries on WAFEO’s executive as the federation advances its mission of professional excellence, regional integration, and engineering development.
The NSE President, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE used the conference to urge stronger collaboration among national engineering bodies across Africa.
He was represented by Past President Engr. Kashim Ali, who congratulated Dr. Mudasiru on his election and reaffirmed NSE’s support for his new role.
Speaking through his representative, Engr. Rabiu said Africa’s complex developmental challenges make regional cooperation among professional bodies more urgent than ever.
“As Africa continues to confront complex developmental challenges, the need for stronger collaboration among our professional bodies has become even more imperative,” he stated.
He noted that governments and institutions across the continent are seeking sustainable solutions to issues including food security, agricultural productivity, supply chain management, energy generation and distribution, urban development, climate resilience, and protection of lives and property.
“These challenges present not only responsibilities, but also opportunities for engineers to demonstrate leadership, innovation and ingenuity,” Rabiu added.
The NSE President said Dr. Mudasiru’s election strengthens Nigeria’s voice in WAFEO and positions Nigerian engineers to play a leading role in shaping engineering standards and infrastructure policy across West Africa.
