Defence, Finance Ministries Pledge Closer Coordination on Security and Economy

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Musa Gwabe, on Monday met with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, to align defence and fiscal policy in support of national stability and development.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Finance, focused on creating a working link between national security and economic planning.

“We recognize that a robust economic architecture cannot exist without absolute stability, just as sustained military operational readiness requires a predictable financial foundation,” Gen. Gwabe said after the talks.

Both ministers agreed to build a direct synergy between the Defence and Finance ministries. Under the arrangement, military operational strategies will be integrated with economic planning to ensure that security interventions help strengthen investor confidence, market stability, and overall national development.

Gwabe described the collaboration as a step toward “unified governance,” saying both sectors will now operate in “total lockstep to secure and stabilize the nation.”

He also congratulated Prof. Oyedele on his appointment and wished him success in steering the country’s economic direction.

The meeting took place on May 26, 2026.
