Former Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu has rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Nasarawa State, which declared Senator Ahmed Aliyu-Wadada as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.
Speaking to journalists in Lafia after the announcement by the Professor Theodore Maiyaki-led primary election committee, Abubakar-Adamu said the exercise lacked credibility and did not reflect the will of APC stakeholders in the state.
He alleged that voting did not take place in several areas, and that result sheets were removed and manipulated by some state government officials in collaboration with certain local government chairmen. According to him, the process was compromised and skewed against genuine party members.
Abubakar-Adamu urged the APC national leadership to investigate the alleged irregularities and address what he described as injustices in the primary.
He said his ambition to “rescue and reposition” Nasarawa State remains unchanged, and expressed confidence he would contest and win the 2027 governorship election, either on the APC platform or another party if the issues are not resolved.
“Should justice prevail, we shall continue our journey within the APC. However, if justice is denied, we shall communicate our next line of action and the political platform under which we shall contest the 2027 governorship race,” he said.
The former IGP maintained that in areas where voting and counting were transparent, he emerged victorious. He called on his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while the matter is addressed, adding that “we shall remain united, hopeful and committed to the struggle for fairness and a better Nasarawa State.”
