An African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Assembly aspirant, Akilu Muhammad has declared his intention to win Jalingo Constituency in the 2027 general elections, promising to prioritize youth employment and urban infrastructure.
Speaking to supporters at the party’s secretariat in Jalingo on Wednesday, the aspirant said the ruling parties have failed to deliver basic services to residents of the state capital.
“Jalingo deserves representation that works. Our roads, schools, and hospitals show what happens when leaders stop listening,” he said. “Under ADC, we will legislate for the people, not for personal pockets. I am in this race to win it for the people.”
He listed insecurity, poor drainage, and rising unemployment as top issues facing the constituency, pledging to push for state-level intervention and community-based security initiatives if elected.
The declaration comes as ADC strengthens its structure across Taraba’s 16 LGAs ahead of 2027. Party leaders say defections from PDP and APC are boosting grassroots support, especially among youth and urban voters in Jalingo.
ADC Taraba Chairman Hassan Adamu said the party will conduct “free and fair primaries” to produce credible candidates. “Jalingo is strategic. We are fielding aspirants who know the streets and the problems,” he said.
The PDP currently holds the Jalingo Constituency seat in the Taraba State House of Assembly. ADC has no sitting member in the House.
