The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has directed accredited insolvency practitioners in Nigeria to renew their accreditation and complete a mandatory re-registration exercise on or before December 1, 2026, warning that failure to comply will result in automatic suspension.

The commission said suspended practitioners would become ineligible to undertake or continue insolvency-related assignments until they meet the required conditions.

The directives were contained in a notice issued by the CAC management on October 14, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance, improve record management and enhance the security of professional accreditation.

According to the commission, the renewal requirement applies to practitioners whose accreditation is due for renewal, while the fresh registration exercise is mandatory for all accredited insolvency practitioners, including those whose certificates remain valid.

The CAC explained that the three-year accreditation validity period and renewal requirements are backed by Section 705 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020, and Regulation 1.07 of the Insolvency Regulations, 2022.

It urged practitioners due for renewal to complete the process by December 1, 2026, stressing that failure to meet the deadline would automatically trigger suspension and render affected professionals ineligible to handle insolvency assignments.

Beyond the renewal exercise, the commission said the compulsory re-registration was designed to support its transition to end-to-end automation and ensure that practitioners’ identification records are updated in line with the National Identity Management Commission Act, 2026.

The CAC added that practitioners who successfully complete the re-registration process would be issued new accreditation certificates equipped with enhanced security features.

It emphasised that the re-registration directive was not restricted to practitioners with expired certificates, making compliance compulsory for every accredited insolvency professional covered by the notice.

The commission directed affected practitioners to submit their renewal and re-registration applications through its dedicated online portal at CAC Insolvency Portal.

Further information on the requirements and procedures is available on the commission’s official website, Corporate Affairs Commission.

The CAC advised practitioners to commence and complete the necessary processes promptly to avoid disruptions to their professional activities.

The directive underscores the commission’s efforts to modernise its operations, enforce statutory accreditation requirements and strengthen the integrity and security of insolvency practitioners’ records
