The Bauchi State Government has commissioned medical equipment valued at N625 million to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services across the state.
The equipment, comprising 20 digital 4D ultrasound machines and 73 anti-shock garments, was commissioned by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Awwal Jatau, on Tuesday at the Government House, Bauchi.
Jatau said the intervention would improve access to quality maternal and child healthcare, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to providing standardised healthcare services for women and children across the state.
The equipment was procured in 2025 under the World Bank-supported IMPACT project but could not be distributed immediately due to logistics challenges.
The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Board, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, said the challenges had been resolved, paving the way for the distribution of the equipment to health facilities across the state.
The Project Focal Person, Dr. Adamu Mohammed, said the 20 multifunctional 4D ultrasound machines, valued at N600 million, would be distributed to the state’s 20 General Hospitals.
According to him, the machines are capable of conducting obstetric, abdominal, pelvic, Doppler and echocardiography scans, with 360-degree imaging capabilities to enhance diagnostic accuracy.
He added that the 73 anti-shock garments, valued at N25 million, would be distributed to high-volume primary healthcare centres across the state.
He explained that the garments would be used to temporarily control postpartum haemorrhage and prevent women from going into shock while awaiting referral to higher-level health facilities.
Mohammed further disclosed that the intervention was expected to provide free ultrasound scans to about 30,000 pregnant women across Bauchi State within the next three months.
