The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) have resolved to deepen collaboration towards promoting transparency, accountability and improved revenue mobilisation in Nigeria’s extractive industries.
Chairman of RMAFC, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, stated this on Friday, August 28, 2026, when the Executive Secretary of NEITI, Hon. Musa Sarki Adar, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Shehu described the relationship between the two institutions as longstanding and strategic, stressing that closer cooperation would strengthen revenue monitoring and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s natural resources.
“RMAFC is delighted to receive the Executive Secretary and his delegation. Our relationship with NEITI is longstanding, strategic and mutually beneficial. We value NEITI’s work in promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s extractive sector, and we are committed to deepening this partnership,” he said.
The RMAFC chairman commended NEITI for providing credible information on the operations and financial flows within the extractive industries, noting that its reports had contributed to improved public understanding and accountability in the sector.
He also pledged the Commission’s continued support for NEITI through data sharing, research, revenue monitoring and policy engagement.
Shehu congratulated Adar on his appointment as Executive Secretary of NEITI, describing it as well deserved and expressing confidence in his capacity to provide effective leadership.
In his remarks, Adar said the partnership between NEITI and RMAFC had been built over time and should now be taken to a higher level.
“The relationship between NEITI and RMAFC is not new. It is a partnership built over time, and we must now take it to a higher level,” he said.
The NEITI boss highlighted RMAFC’s mandate to monitor revenues accruing to the Federation Account and advise on measures to improve revenue collection and accountability, particularly from Nigeria’s natural resources.
He stressed that reliable data on revenues generated from oil, gas and mining activities remained critical to effective fiscal management, public accountability and evidence-based decision-making.
According to him, NEITI’s independent reconciliation of financial and physical flows in the extractive sector provides important data on revenues, payments, production, exports and company activities, which could support RMAFC’s revenue monitoring and policy functions.
Adar also said Nigeria’s participation in the ongoing 2026 Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) implementation under the 2023 EITI Standard provided an opportunity to demonstrate progress in strengthening governance across the extractive industries.
He noted that the standard’s focus on data reliability, systematic disclosure, transparency of revenue flows and institutional collaboration aligned with RMAFC’s mandate and offered opportunities for enhanced cooperation.
Adar invited RMAFC to participate in the Global EITI Conference scheduled for October 8–9, 2026, in Brussels, Belgium, where Nigeria is expected to showcase its progress in resource governance.
He called for stronger collaboration among NEITI, RMAFC and other relevant institutions in data sharing, revenue mobilisation, research, capacity building and policy dialogue.
“Our objective should be to build a more coordinated institutional framework for revenue assurance and resource governance.
By working together, NEITI and RMAFC can strengthen oversight and support evidence-based policymaking,” he said.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Commission, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, as well as directors and special advisers to the RMAFC chairman.
In a vote of thanks, the Director of Solid Minerals Department, Malam Rabiu Kabiru, appreciated the NEITI delegation for the visit and reaffirmed the importance of the partnership between both institutions.
He expressed confidence that the collaboration would continue to deliver positive results for the two organisations and the country.
